AUGUST, 1971


John and Yoko move to New York City, and rent an apartment on Bank Street in Greenwich Village.

SEPTEMBER, 1971


Imagine”, Lennon’s second studio album is released in the United States, the album went to #1 worldwide. “Imagine” currently holds the #3 position on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list, has been voted the best song of all time and is one of the top 100 most-performed songs of the 20th century.

SOMETIME IN 1972


Apple Records orders Lennon’s Town & Country wagon directly from Chrysler, it’s flown to New York on a chartered jet.

MAY, 1972


John and Yoko take the wagon on a trip to Ojai, California with their assistant Peter Bendry at the wheel. The Lennon’s affectionately name their car, “Dragon Wagon”.

JUNE, 1972


Sometime in New York City” is released in the United States. Although the UK release peaked at #11 on the chart, it only went to #48 in the US.

AUGUST, 1973


John and Yoko move into The Dakota, with their green Town & Country wagon.

SOMETIME IN LATE 1973


John uses the Chrysler with assistant and lover May Pang during his “Lost Weekend” period.

NOVEMBER, 1973


Mind Games” is released in the United States. The album charted at #13 in the UK and peaked at #9 on Billboard's Top LP's listings

SEPTEMBER, 1974


Walls and Bridges” is released in the United States. In America, the album debuted on the Billboard Top LPs & Tape chart. In the UK, the album reached #6.

JANUARY, 1975


John and Yoko reunite at the Dakota.

SOMETIME IN 1975


The couple take the Chrysler wagon on a cross-country trip to San Francisco to visit a Chinese acupuncturist. John explained that this doctor helped them withdraw from heroin, and introduced them to a macrobiotic diet making it possible for Yoko to get pregnant.

FEBRUARY, 1976


Lennon’s “Rock 'n' Roll” album is released in the United States, reaching #6 on the charts in both the United Kingdom and the United States.

OCTOBER, 1976


Sean Ono Lennon is born on October 9th, sharing his dad’s birthday.

NOVEMBER, 1978


John and Yoko order a new Mercedes 300 TD wagon to replace their Chrysler.

NOVEMBER, 1980


Double Fantasy” is released in the United States. The album receives strong reviews and reaches #11 in the US and #14 in the UK.

DECEMBER, 1980


John is tragically murdered outside of The Dakota apartment building.

Yoko placed the Town & Country wagon into storage.

JUNE, 1984


Ono sells the car at a Sotheby's auction for $7,700 with the buyer remaining anonymous.

SEPTEMBER, 1996


The wagon was again sold by Sotheby’s, this time for $20,700, and then stored in Greenwich Village where it was occasionally used for seances by a well known clairvoyant and medium.

JANUARY, 2011


The Dragon Wagon was sold on New Year’s Day in another auction, this time by Braswell Galleries in Norwalk, Connecticut.

JUNE, 2023


Feature in the “Driven by Celebrity” category at the 2023 Greenwich Concours d’Elegance. Lennon’s car was an attendee and press favorite taking home a prestigious “Media Award” win.
